My name is Lisa Manyoky, but you can call me Yokes. I’m a certified coach, but I don’t coach game play. Rather, I coach skaters from the neck up by helping them learn to use that muscle between their ears to improve performance.

I’ve been a competitive athlete all my life. I played outdoor and indoor soccer year-round from the time I was a kid through college. I played softball for many years, and ran track. (There is no way all 5’2″ of me did much of anything memorable on the track, so running was strictly to keep fit for soccer.) After a bit of a hiatus while I invested my time in family and career, I pursued martial arts. I became proficient in kum do (swords) and am now a second degree black belt in tae kwon do.

I’ve been on teams that have been undefeated, others that won only a single game in a season and everything in between. I know how it feels to win and how it feels to lose. I know what it’s like to be on a team with women I didn’t like so much and what it’s like to play with true comrades. I’ve been injured and overwhelmed, victorious and gratified. So though I can’t skate to save my life, I know what it’s like to push, drive, sweat and compete in my games of choice. I also know that having natural skill is awesome, but without integrating the power of the mind into training, true performance potential can never be realized.

I bring performance coaching to hockey athletes and teams so they learn to apply brainpower techniques that enhance physical skills they already have. This mental focus is also applicable to other areas of life, including school and work, so performance coaching is powerful on and off the ice.

P.S. Why hockey, you ask? I’m a hockey mom to the core. I’ve been watching my son on the ice for a long, long time. I’ve visited too many rinks to count. And I’ve come to appreciate hockey stink. Now that’s commitment!
